Marie Claire magazine contacted Leah a few weeks ago to see if she would appear in an article about Australia’s most influential pinners on the pinboard-styled image-sharing platform Pinterest. Rather surprised indeed to hear that she is one of Australia’s most influential pinners, she said “Sure, why not?”.
Turns out global social statistics gurus Zoomsphere released some stats on Pinterest back in March, identifying the ten most followed individual pinners and the ten most dominant brands represented on the social media platform. Leah was named number seven, alongside some serious blog superstars such as Joy Cho of Oh Joy! and Victoria Smith of SF Girl by Bay.
How does a gal from Perth clock up over 800-thousand followers? At Studio Bomba, we blame Michelle Leslie – the earliest of early-adopters amongst us. She stumbled over Pinterest last year, when the site was in its early days. Introducing it to the studio, the designers have all found it to be a wonderful resource for sharing and storing images.
Primped and preened by makeup artist Bobby Bujisic and photographed by Sydney’s Jeremy Park, Leah was overwhelmed by the fuss and attention foisted upon her (but just quietly, quite chuffed by the fabulous photograph). She would however like to point out that she was mis-quoted by Marie Claire a little – Pinterest founder Ben Silbermann did not send Bomba an email early on after launch saying he liked what we were doing and would we start pinning? He did send an e-mail to say he noticed lots of Perth-pinning in what was the wee small hours for him and could he please write a blog post about us all? Leah said “Sure, why not?”.
