Either way, when a lovely opportunity landed in our lap, we leapt. Our favourite place to frequent at 324 Oxford Street, down the road from us at 379, was called Distracted. Founded by Natalie and Mark Green, it was a haven of happiness for us for the past seven years. We shopped there (Bomba’s gurgle pot count = 5). We had our hair styled there. We drank mint hot chocs and ate savoury scones there. So, when a life-changing little one was the impetus for them to shut up shop – we felt super sad for ourselves and our neighbourhood, but super excited for their family and their future. (Oh, and by the way, have you visited Mark at Salon Mark II yet?)
So yes, we’re the fortunate ones who have moved into the odd little oddly-zoned building at 324 Oxford Street. We’ve crossed the line from Mount Hawthorn into Leederville and can now be found just a few blocks north of the cafe strip. We’re smack dab in the middle of a residential block and our building dates back to 1942 at least, when it was a corner shop selling groceries and Bushell’s Tea to the locals.
So, what do we sell? The designery goodness our old shop was well known for – an ace mix of stationery, artwares, accessories, publications and designer knick-knacks from far and near, some as near as the studio and letterpress workshop that share the same digs. Lots of products made by independent designers, artists and craftspersons. We especially like it when the same person or group that designs the products also makes the products and there is happiness and heart involved from start to finish.
You can still peruse our own Mitchell & Dent paperwares by ambling up a few steps to what we affectionately call ‘The Show Room’. It is where we show off our stationery, show and tell in workshop form and show clients what we’ve designed for them (so, do please excuse the ‘Reserved for Meetings’ sign that will often pop up on the largest table in the house).
At 379 Oxford St, the studio was hidden away in back, but it is front and centre at 324 Oxford St. Well, it is actually to the side a bit and up a few steps, but it is highly visible. Where we used to have our hair cut, we now sit and create, designing for stationery and products, events and brands.
What’s new? Coffee and cake, tea and toast, tasty treats of the seasonal kind. We now sport a miniature coffee bar that keeps us all well-caffeinated and we’d love to offer you a sweet spot to sit awhile with a cuppa and chat too. We’re very new to the world of cafes, but thankfully our little team of coffee nerds aren’t, so rest assured your cup-o-joe will be served just the way you like it. Welcome.
